Place Settings for Dinner Party

Well its been a busy day with the glue gun and scissors. I have been cutting white rose heads off there stems I bought from spotlight and then using the good old glue gun to stick them to the mini topiary trees. Then once they had all been done I got out the red paint and started to paint some of the white roses like in the queens garden.

Then I did the same thing but on a bigger scale using tin pales , dowel and larger white roses and a foam ball.

After mixing some plaster together and then pouring into the tin pale, I placed the dowel in the centre and used two clips and string to hold it in centre position. Once the plaster was set I painted the dowel and when dried pushed the foam ball onto the dowel stick. It then was a process of cutting the rose heads off their stems and pushing them into the foam ball. It doesn't make any difference where you start, just ensure they are placed close together so there are not gaps.

Once that was all completed I did the same as the small topiary trees and painted the roses red. I brushed over same gently but others i covered alot more. I will take some pics and post soon.

Have fun creating..

Alice In Wonderland Party Ideas

I thought I would list of some of the websites that have been of a great help to me

I have also been looking for bits and pieces on ebay and local shops in my area.

Things to look for -

 random dinner settings,
 teapots,
old style keys,
 small cork bottles
fake roses or plants that you can attach roses to
flamingoes
crocquet sets

One of my favourite buys at the moment has to be this moss rabbit. I am going to make a large rabbit pictures with an area to place at the entrance of my estate to show the way to the party and to tie in with the wording on the invitations - follow the white rabbit , then the address.

Dinner Party

Welcome to my first blog. I thought I would start blogging the progress of my Mad Hatter 30th Dinner Party to be held in August 2011. I have been searching all over the internet to come up with some wonderful ideas for decorations, food  and drinks to serve, costumes and even wording of menu, invitations etc.

I am really excited and looking forward to my birthday and sharing all the pictures of all the creations I come up with on the way.

Trying to come up with a starting point was my first challenge. I knew I wanted a fancy dress party and after watching Tim Burton's version of Alice in Wonderland I fell in love with the idea of a Alice in Wonderland party.

From there i mentioned it to a couple of my friends who also got really excited by it and said to count them in. So I started pondering over how many guests I would have and I came up with the idea of 30 guests for my 30th birthday ( so everyone better turn up, ha ha). Once I roughly worked that out it was sorting through the characters, I have chosen a mix from the normal version of Alice in Wonderland and Tim Burton's version. Not everyone is always keen to dress up so I had that in the back of my head at all times and the other thing I was pondering was do I give a character to a guest or let them choose. I don't want to have 3 or 4 Alice's walking around, so I spoke to my friends who I knew would dress up and they each had in mind who they wanted to be . At this stage I am giving everyone a character to come as and this will also help make their invitation a little more personal.

One friend of mine is really into scrapbooking so she has been playing around with different invitation ideas, and after looking on the internet I really want the theme to flow through from start to finish. I have been changing my mind about the style of party it was going to be. We had the idea of doing lots of sweet and savoury goodies so it fitted in with the mad hatters tea party, but I have decided to make it abit more adult and make it a mad hatters dinner party. I am going to theme the menu to again tie in with the movie and make the food as creative as i can (of course with it still tasting good).

So stay tuned will post some pics and more information as I progress along.

Cheers
